Fred, a zombie who has repeatedly fleshed himself out, assists Caroline during her birthday celebration and the confrontation with AnneMarie, and is described as being only hours out of rigor mortis and capable of near‑normal sexual activity. A murderous young man who meets Caroline in a virtual camp house, subjects her to extreme torture, binds her with magical chains, drags her through a forest on a motorbike, and negotiates a contract with Prime Intellect to be ignored.
