3 DECEMBER - 10 HOURS, 50 MINUTES UNTIL DAWN

Scott wakes hand‑cuffed and rope‑bound to all four limbs inside a cramped, stone‑slab building that appears long abandoned. He notes cobwebs, spiders, cold, and the smell of a distant fire. The devil‑masked man enters, kneels at Scott’s knees, and brandishes two items: stapled sheets of paper and a screwdriver. He quiets Scott and tells him they will “talk a while.” The man shows Scott the sheets titled “Five Hundred Reasons Why I Love You,” pointing out that only 274 reasons are printed and asking why the list is incomplete. He suggests the missing reasons are a Christmas present for someone named Jodie. The captor forces Scott to recall the first reason; Scott stammers out “Something about how we met,” which the man affirms and presses for more detail about their lucky meeting. While this interrogation continues, a pop‑up message appears on Scott’s computer from user “isz5jlm” saying “Hi – how are you?” He recognizes the prefix as a computer‑studies department code and the year 1995, but cannot identify the sender. He closes the window, then a second message arrives “Ooops – sorry!” indicating the first was sent by mistake. Curious, Scott double‑clicks the username, composes a reply asking who the person is, and sends it. The fire outside crackles, snow falls heavier, and the masked man briefly leaves the room, leaving footprints in the snow. He soon returns, now holding the screwdriver heated in the fire, steam curling from its tip. He presses the screwdriver to Scott’s eye, asking repeatedly “Do you love her?” (referring to Jodie). Scott, terrified, finally answers “Yes,” after which the man drives the hot screwdriver into Scott’s eye, ending the scene with the sound of the device penetrating flesh.
