Chapter 20

At the start of the morning, Blade Gushiken greets Trystan (the Villain) with a teasing comment, prompting Trystan’s volatile reaction. Trystan, still reeling from Sage’s recent betrayal, wanders his office, reflecting on his reliance on Sage’s cauldron brew and his inability to think clearly without it. He expects Sage to apologize with a pastry, but the day quickly descends into chaos: interns nearly kill each other in the dungeons, a massive weapons shipment arrives, and the magical filing cabinet malfunctions, mixing up and “eating” files.

Trystan seeks out healer Tatianna to learn if anyone has whispered secrets about Sage; she flatly denies any knowledge, leaving Trystan frustrated. Rebecka Erring delivers another cup of the unsweetened brew, and Blade reappears, demanding to discuss naming the dragon he is training. After a brief, absurd exchange, Trystan names the beast “Fluffy,” which Blade receives with stunned silence.

Blade then reveals he once held an employment offer from King Benedict, detailing his upbringing in the capital, his father’s council position, and his lifelong affinity for magical creatures. He admits he kept the letter as proof of making the right choice to work for Trystan, and pleads for forgiveness, offering to undergo a magical oath to prove his loyalty. Trystan, still bitter, threatens Blade but ultimately relents, allowing him to keep his job and continue training the dragon.

In a final moment, Blade, still uneasy, asks Trystan, “What about Evie?” Trystan remains silent, and Blade departs, leaving the question hanging as the chapter closes.
