Synopsis

The whole plot in a few paragraphs.

After a meteor‑shaken quake and a surprise base assault, Cainan and Sharan are captured by Lt. Jane Sagan, who discovers the base’s seismic camouflage and Cainan’s Fronig’s‑syndrome cure while the Union engineers a clone of Dr. Charles Boutin and implants his brain pattern into a “born‑grown” Special Forces recruit, Private Jared Dirac. Dirac undergoes forced neural integration with a squad of fifteen other engineered soldiers, granting them shared memories, accelerated learning, and a nanobot‑armed MP‑35A rifle, and they are thrust into a series of high‑risk operations—from the brutal takeover of the Eneshan Hierarch’s palace to a night‑insertion on the Obin‑controlled moon Arist that ends in disaster and capture. At an Obin science station they meet a clone of Boutin, who reveals his scheme to grant the Obin consciousness by using a BrainPal‑based virus carried in Dirac’s hybrid mind, and forces a lethal consciousness transfer that kills Jared while recording his thoughts. In the fallout the CDF leadership decides to erase Jared’s recorded mind rather than resurrect him, and Sagan, covertly retired, accepts a new personal future with John Perry and Zoë Boutin, closing the war’s tragic arc.
